If you’re looking to stock up on pricey items for your kids, like sports equipment, July isn’t the time to do it. “It would be wise to wait to make any [sports gear] purchases,” says Sara Korab, director of retail trends at Savings.com. Luckily, you won’t have to wait long to see prices on sports equipment fall. “Our data shows that out of any month, August sees the most deals for outdoor sports gear,” Korab explains. If you’re looking to revamp your wardrobe in time for fall, now’s not the best time to do it. “August is the best time of year to buy clothes and accessories,” says Korab. “The reason here is likely two-fold: August is filled with back to school deals, and it’s also generally the month that fashion transitions from summer styles to fall, meaning retailers put many of those styles on sale.” Even if a recent payday has your paycheck burning a hole in your pocket, you’d be wise to put off making any TV purchases until at least a few months from now. “In general, summer isn’t a great time to buy any electronics as the sales are few and far between, and the discounts just aren’t the best,” says Julie Ramhold, a consumer analyst with DealNews.com. So, when’s the best time to buy? “Wait until Black Friday in November,” suggests Ramhold. “That’s when Walmart will have a ton of great TV deals and you’ll be able to save much more than if you spring for a new set in July.” Sure, it might be tempting to give your sparse-looking yard some new seating, but you’ll be paying top dollar for that patio set if you buy it now. “Unfortunately, summer isn’t when you’ll find the best deals; wait until summer starts to wind down instead. Watch for bigger discounts on patio items in August at the earliest, when retailers, including Walmart, should start trying to clear out inventory to make room for autumn-appropriate products,” says Ramhold. While fall may not be prime time for grilling, it is the optimal season for purchasing a grill, according to Ramhold.ae0fcc31ae342fd3a1346ebb1f342fcb “Similar to patio furniture, grills are a seasonal item that just won’t have great savings until the season is nearly over. They’re the king of the summer backyard BBQ, so if you need one right away, you may just have to take what you can get. But if you can afford to wait, we’ll see better deals in September and October, which will still offer plenty of time to utilize it for tailgating, at least,” Ramhold explains. Would it be nice to have a new lawn mower right now to keep your grass looking neat? Sure. But if you buy now, you’ll be paying a whole lot more for that summer essential. “If you shop in August or October, you should see better deals, as that’s when demand starts to drop and retailers will want to make room for lawn and garden tools that are fit for fall and winter. As they try to clear out their remaining stock, you can expect prices to drop and you’ll find better savings than if you shop in July,” Ramhold explains.
