In reports issued on Nov. 1 and obtained by CNN, the White House coronavirus task force points out that there is now “significant deterioration in the Sun Belt as mitigation efforts were decreased over the past five weeks.” Unfortunately, an updated report released on Nov. 8 found that conditions have only worsened in the region, “leading to the most diffuse spread experienced to date.” The news also comes the same week that California and Texas became the first two states to surpass one million total coronavirus cases each since the beginning of the pandemic. The task force specifically called out certain Sun Belt states to change their tactics, and the figures for these southernmost states paint a troubling picture for the coming days.
