Footage posted by the New York City Police Department shows the thieves almost falling on top of each other from the force with which they break through the window. Using a sledgehammer, the suspects smashed into the store and can be seen knocking over the cases to steal the items inside. After pocketing over $500K worth of jewelry from the store, the three suspects escaped in a silver sedan. As of Tuesday, October 18, no arrests have been made, but the NYPD is hoping someone will recognize the men (even though they are masked). Some Twitter commenters are pointing out that the reward offered doesn’t even come close to the amount stolen. “A reward of “up to 3.5k” for an estimated loss value of $500k is extremely low. If the point is to apprehend the thieves and prevent similar crimes the reward should be higher. The NYPD are warning that crime in the city was up 31% in July, and robberies were up 37%, compared to last year. “Everyone who lives, works and visits here deserves to be safe, and the members of the NYPD will tolerate nothing less,” said Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell. “But we cannot do it alone.
